Panych Plays

Aired Fall 2007 on Bravo!

Welcome to the world of Morris Panych, the internationally acclaimed playwright renowned for his biting wit, absurdist situations, and existential themes.

Canada’s answer to Beckett has a dilemma. When his play What Lies Before Us opens in Toronto, Panych is 3,000 miles away starring in his internationally acclaimed play, Vigil. What is unusual is that this is the first time in a career spanning a quarter of a century that Panych has handed over the director’s reins for a world premiere of his own work.

As opening night for Vigil and What Lies Before Us draws near, the telephone calls and e-mails heat up the lines between Toronto and Vancouver, resulting in a hyperactive roller coaster ride where art mirrors the always chaotic, often funny and sometimes sad, life of Morris Panych.
